I really hope that I am not violating any of the rules here. I do not work for the company that is in the link or know anyone that does. I am new to diving and am immediately hooked. I do like to video and take pictures of my dives, just as I am sure that many of you do. The problem that I have is that on a day where I dove 3 times, one hour each, with no access to charge my GoPro battery and I didn't have an extra with me, I ran out of juice on the last dive. I frequently look for new ideas on kickstarter and came across this GoPro grip that recharges your battery while you are using it, underwater. I had to become a backer because I can see the potential for the product while diving or doing anything else using my GoPro for extended periods of time. It only has about 17 days left before it ends so check it out. Also, let me know if you think that there is a better product out there.

Thanks,
Randal

Looks like a decent product! I'd try one if it comes to market. I. However won't be backing it.

You do know that an extra battery can be had for like $19, right?

:D

I'd also check on the warranty on that thing... because I'm guessing it's going to leak. Frying the device and your camera. A rating of 99ft basically means that the device will probably be OK next to the sink while you carefully wash your hands.

(The good thing about being a pessimist is that you get to go through life either being proven right... or pleasantly surprised.)

I like that, I'll use it assuming you have no copyright. A much more positive spin on what is generally considered a negative personality trait.

I'd try it but would never point it at myself. [emoji57] [emoji6]

RJP, I appreciate the your insight on this potential issue. It is actually something that I had not really considered. I am now mulling it over though I think that I will still going to give it a go. I guess I lean more towards the optimist side of things. I think that anything has the potential to have problems when you submerge them in water. The first couple of dives that I did my instructor had a seriously nice and very expensive camera set up with a underwater case that cost him well into the thousands of dollars, the case was rated at much deeper than we were diving yet it still leaked. He didn't fry the camera but he definitely drowned it.

(An optimist with very low standards is rarely ever displeased)

GoPro is very nice kamera special black series (and expensive too ) . If you not sure in housing there is lot of purpose-made housings ...like http://www.10bar.com/infoSheet/NEX-5/GoPro.htm or IQSUB GoPro HERO3 and 3 Plus 150m 500ft Delrin Underwater Case, 214,9

but handle and connectors are (IMO ) different story . Handle made too much water resistance ( also shape ) and the light is too close to lens ( maybe work in clear water ok)

for GoPro i like that handle https://light-for-me.pswebshop.com/en/video-lights/22-gopro-video-light.html ( but im not sure how is balanced - buoyncy ( perfect should be underwater neutral ))

Thanks to some insight from you guys, who are much more experienced and knowledgeable about issues with gear while diving I have cancelled my backing of this product. It blocks your display on the silver and black editions and as it was pointed out I don't feel like ruining such an expensive piece of equipment. Thanks everyone for your feedback. There may be a way but I would like to delete this thread all together. For future ideas I think that I will post them on here for advice prior to committing to it.
