First post. I am originally from Miami and am now stuck in Southern Illinois for a few years. I'm jonesin for some salt water time, so my wife and I are taking a trip to Bonaire and Curacao in January. Can't wait!

Back to the matter at hand. I know, making a Google Earth layer of dive sites on Bonaire is overkill. It's a small island, there's yellow rocks, not much more needed than that. But I am a :dork2: who's research involves mapping, so I kinda enjoy doing it. I'd like to make a GIS layer with some of the info about the dive sites and attractions on the island, just to help me prioritize my time there. I figured that I could then create a Google Earth layer and share it with the community. Before I begin though, I wanted to double check that this hasn't already been done. I didn't see one online, but I may have missed something.

It's kind of been done.

https://www.google.com/search?q=Dive+Site+Collection.kmz&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Click the 2nd link to d/l the file.

Also: http://divelogs.de/divelogs_public_dives.kml which is the entire divelogs database worldwide in the same format. It's a 32MB file..seems mostly accurate although somewhat dependent on divers not mapping professionals. I have found a few mistakes on other countries that I know are wrong.

If you are going to break out Bonaire separately please add the 26 Klein Bonaire sites to the Google Earth overlay. I think the couple of east side dives were missing also.

Thanks for all the useful posts! I'm loading all 3 to GE and will play with each a bit. Mostly, I'll be adding personal notes, color coding them based on my preferences, and finding other ways to think about our dives until we are in the water. If I come up with something that is an improvement on the downloads mentioned, I'll be sure to pass them along. For the most part, they seem quite comprehensive though.
