I'm supposed to go to Thailand later this month and will have a few days in Hua Hin. Is there any good diving nearby? Thanks much.

Don't know my Thai geography well enough to know where Hua Hin is. I spent a month in the country two years ago, backpacking and diving.

Although Koh Tao was crowded, it was a fun introduction to the flora and fauna (not to mention topside social life). Despite the sometimes crowded conditions, cattle boats and poor rental equipment I enjoyed it.

Koh Phi Phi was my favorite... great diving, wonderful Dutch dive buddy (nothing romantic, just innocent fun), fun topside (although dominated by Europeans more than Thais).

Wish I had time to go to the Similans and Burma Banks. Next trip!

Enjoy your time there (but watch out for the big city scams). The Thais I met ub the rural areas were wonderful people.

Hua Hin is near Cha-Am, 2 hours South of BKK (Bangkok) and although it is a hidden treasure as a get-away, unfortunately there is no diving worth mentioning. Great Sandbars, but no reefs to speak of.

You gotta go down to Chumphon or Surat Thani, possibly out to Koh Tao or Samui for diving, but then you get out of the peaceful seclusion of HH

2.5 hours South of Hua Hin you can dive from Ban Krut (close to Bang Sapan) - perhaps one of the nicest stretch of coast on the gulf, you can contact

to see if they have any trips going when you will be there (this is quite an uninhabited area so I doubt if they go out everyday.

There is no dive operators around Hua Hin. I am going there myself in a couple of days. Water there is very murky and no reef to speak off. It is a popular resort town, not as crowded as Pattaya and nicer beach but not really very secluded. More quiet place would be Pranburi which is about 30 km south of Hua Hin. There are quite a few nice and quiet place to stay there. As far as diving goes, the closest place to Hua Hin would be Chumporn which is probably 200-250km south of Hua Hin. Chumporn Cabana is quite nice and has been around for a long time.

Also from Chumporn, you can take a ferry over to Koh Tao which is pretty good for diving.

Further South from Chumporn, you can go to Phuket, Krabi etc also.

No diving for me on this trip, I guess.

I think you need to check out hua hin divers as they operate courses and dive days for qualified divers at the island just 2 hours south of Hua Hin. They have a private RIB for diving and qualified instructors. The diving is very good with lots of marine life and decent visibility.

I think you need to check out hua hin divers as they operate a professional dive operation just south of hua hin. Offering all courses and dive days for qualified divers. Very good dive sites also just less than 2 hours from Hua Hin.
