This fish that buzzed us a few times on a Caribbean dive was nearer 5 foot long. I initially thought it might be a tarpon (but it clearly isn't). It moved a lot like a shark (but also clearly isn't). Is it a cobia?

Tried to upload a bigger image, but didn't really work...

Based on the size and the general shape, I'd say it's an amberjack, Seriola dumerili. I think the tail having one lobe larger than the other is just from the angle of the photo.

That's a Ling (Lemonfish, Cobia... Rachycentron canadum).

Jack was the first thing I thought......the face looks to stumpy to be a ling does it not? I am far from a fish expert though

The one thing that really made me think "Cobia" was that people say that Cobia are often mistaken for sharks (despite not looking much like sharks). This fish definitely moved like a shark.

I am just glad no one had a spear gun, because at that sort of range I am sure someone would have been tempted to take a pop, and probably would have had a wild ride...
