Could anyone recommend a good BC without an integrated weight system. I like the flexibility of a weight belt. It seems that all the quality BCs have integrated weight systems, and those that do not are basic rental ones. I am not a technical diver. I want something comfortable and reliable, high quality, with a dump valve on the bottom. I dive mostly in the tropical waters these days. Money is not an issue. Thank you very much.

A buddy is fond of his Cayman from Genesis I think. Many many divers train in Sherwood Silhouettes. Actually I got to use an Aqualung wave when training and I likes it just fine. I suppose some of those fall into the basic rental category but I'm not sure what the difference is, none are junk. Fit is still king.

Are you looking for a back flotation or jacket style? I dive warm water location and my BC is a Zeagle Scout. Awesome travel BC. It's just about as light and compact as you can get. The standard Scout comes only with trim pockets but my LDS ordered it for me with "zip touch" weight pockets on the waist as well. I've got about 200 dives on it in almost 5 yrs and the only issue I had was the power inflated had tobe serviced last week. LDS replaced it at no charge.

EDIT: I just went to Zeagle's website and they've remodeled the Scout for 2007. Bummer. It doesn't look as simple and light weight as my older model. But it will probably have a wider appeal with the new features. A dealer might still have some pre-'07 models in stock.

I'll second the Genesis Cayman recommendation I've used DMing in pool sessions and ow sessions before.

Cheers.

There is also the option of just not using the intergrated weights. No reason you can't put a weight belt on instead of installing the weights in the BC. Best of both worlds.

The 2007 Scout is the same style as the older one, we just added a couple of utility pockets on the front and waist panels....the old Scout had the waist panels as an option, and if the diver doesn't need/want it, it is easily removed. It also comes standard with a 24 lb bladder and packs up smaller than ever (especially without the waist panels).

Thanks,

Scott

Simple solution. I too prefer a weight belt and will add a few pounds to the back pockets beside the tank on my Scuba Pro Accent. Just pull out the integrated weight pocket and off you go. Much easier that trying to find something special.
