calling all divers inside and outside the beltway....

Im a new diver ( 11 quarry dives in PA) who is looking forward to my first mid-atlantic dive. My ex-local shop in horsham PA had an introduction to NJ diving course which at the time was very enticing. Having graduated school and moved back to north b'more my lds is no longer local and i need to find a new home base. I want to do my first md/va ocean dive this spring and need some advice on dive shops and or charters that run boat trips suitable for a first experience ( im aow and feel extremely confident about my skills....at least in a quarry) id like to keep it to around 80-90 ft max depth for a few dives to be reasonable. BTW i was very dissappointed to see surface interval go belly up, i had a trip with them in the fall that was blown out... i had heard great things about their operation. Thanks for the info fellas,

Welcome to Scubaboard, and the Baltimore area Kevin.

First, I would look into Scubahut in Glen Burnie, by BWI, they run a great dive shop.

I have no experience with any other boats besides the Surf Interval. This year I plan to go out on "To Dive For" and the "OC Diver".

Also, I would check out trips to Fenwick Shoals for some shallow dives to get you introduced to the waters around here. It's lo-viz, cold, and currents, but the diving can be awesome. A good shipwreck to start with would be the Washingtonian. It's at 95ft to the sand, and mostly piles of deck plates, but a very popular dive site.

I'll second what Szymon said. And welcome to the area. I'm mostly a quarry diver because it's the most convenient, but I'm trying to get more ocean dives in this year.

"belly up" is a strong term for the SI's exit from this area. I think that they got an offer they couldn't refuse on the boat and decided a change would be good.
