Last night an open water diver student made a great comment. We had just finished our fifth pool session (our fourth session on scuba). From the very beginning, even just snorkeling, our OWD course has taught and required teamwork (buddy skills) during gear assembly, suit-up, entry, cruising and drills, exit, and disassembly.
This student is in his early twenties. He recently made it through the Coast Guards rigorous selection process for new recruits, and is learning scuba on his own before reporting for training.
To paraphrase, he mentioned his dive buddy for this course (T), and said:

Trust. Its priceless! Its strange. I dont really know anything about T, except that he likes running. But in the pool I feel that I know him better than I know most people in my life.
