I talked my non-diving wife into joining me on a LDS dive trip to Cobalt Coast in January, so I’m looking for some good things for us to do after the morning dives. Our typical island activities are snorkeling, kayaking, touring botanical gardens and parks (National park type of setups). We’re not afraid of walking (we’ve done pretty much all of the railroad trail in Bermuda). Also, even though dining is included at Cobalt, we were planning on finding a couple of meals out-and-about on occasion (lunch and dinner). Any recommendations with good seafood (for me) and vegetarian (for her) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Erik

Are you going to do the stingray city sandbar tour? It's wonderful.

You will want a car if you are planning on doing things in the afternoon. Cobalt is way up northwest and isolated.

Thanks for the quick responses.

@Snoweman, stingray city is definitely on our list, just not sure where else to try.

@tkaelin, I was wondering about that. We could probably arrange that. I think I can stay on the left side of the road. (Kinda like driving here in New England). Any bus options? That’s our typical mode of transportation when we’re on islands.

We always rent a car when on GCM and is one of the few reasonably priced things on the island. We manage driving on the left by avoiding driving at night and alcohol. If you look at a map or google earth you will get a good sense of where CC is relative to 7mb, GT and the rest of the island. There are buses but we have never used them and I don't think it is something you are going to want to rely on from CC and on a daily basis. There is a restaurant we tried for the first time up your way which was fantastic. I'll have to dig out the name.

. . . The Catch at Morgans Harbor.

RIhappy if you want to explore a car is really needed the bus system is acceptable but pretty much only run on the main streets it is a small island only 23 miles long .

Restarants there are many.....possibly tkaelin was thinking of Papagalos up in that area .Cayman is pricey so expect to pay NYC prices just about everywhere

When are you going and for how long there is so much to see and do

One of out favorite places to eat in the 7 mile beach area is "Eats" reasonable and a good selection "Cimboco" is another to name a few.

Wait for Kathy to come along she will give you many many options with accurate concise informative info !

Ok, sounds like we need to rent a car. @tkaelin I didn’t realize how far away from 7mb it was, but it’s really up there. Thanks for the restaurant recommendation.

@EastEndDiver, we’ll be there the 3rd week of January, Saturday through Saturday. We’re used to paying more when on any of the islands, so we’re expecting that. Thanks for the 2 suggestions. We’re not beach goers, but we like walking the beach, so I’m sure we’ll end up on 7mb at some point.

Hang out on Rum Point....all you need is some SPF and sunglasses...the sunsets are amazing.

One of the bus routes actually stops about a block from Cobalt Coast and I believe the same route runs downs Seven Mile Beach where you'll find many restaurant options both in the strip malls and at the resorts.
Public Buses — Cayman Resident

Close to CC is Cracked Conch/Macabuca Tiki Bar at Turtle Reef - also an excellent shore dive.
Home

Somebody does horse rides nearby - we've seen them in the area. It sounds like you'd be interested in the QE II Botanic Park also (need a car to go there). Here's a few other options - Grand Cayman Island Top 10 Attractions
There's also Kayaking - Cayman Sea Elements Mangrove Eco-Tours
and the Bioluminescence tour - Best Bioluminescence Tours Grand Cayman Islands | Boat And Kayak

We rented from Andy's they have a location at the airport and another on south Seven Mile Beach. They pickup in that area - not sure if at CC though. We only rented the later part of the week but were staying on SMB so things were close by cab, Cabs are expensive.

Thanks, @diversteve, I’ll check those links out. The bioluminescence tour will be of special interest to her. The last time we were in Bermuda the fire worms were mating, which was absolutely amazing.
