I'm changing my reg hose to a 7 ft and a 22inch. Here's my question...I'm using my existing regulators, one of which is yellow (the octopus). Until I get new regs, should the yellow be my primary and the black my necklace?
Thanks all,
Jason

That's what I would do.

Also If you're using a snorkel you need to remove it. Find a way to stow it if you want to take it with you. It will get in the way of deploying the longhose.

Are you using a canister light?

Do you have a bp/wing or a jacket?

That is how I have it set up on my single tank regulator. There are many divers out there who are conditioned to go for the yellow second stage and having one as a necklace may cost you seconds you do not have to lose in an emergency.

Hey Diver0001, no on the canister light, yes to the bp/w.

Thanks Don, that was my exact thinking on doing it this way.

I'd use whichever one breaths most comfortably as my primary (long hose). Color really doesn't mean anything.

This would be my answer as well. Many lower-performance octopus regs don't breathe well. So I'd relegate the one that is lowest performance to the necklace. Here's why.

First off, you'll be using your primary (long hose) reg most of the time yourself. So you'll naturally want the one that breathes the best as your workhorse. But more importantly, consider what happens in an OOA. The person you'll be handing off to is most likely going to be a bit stressed. They're going to be breathing harder than normal ... at least till the situation is stabilized and they start to calm down a bit. You'll want to be handing off your highest performance reg to that person to more easily handle their increased breathing rate and help them get the gas they need to calm down and deal with the situation.

Hey Bob,
both of my second stages are the same except the color (according to the service manual). Now the port on the first stage, that my main second stage is connected to is different. I assume I'll want my long hose on that port.

If both regs are identical, then it makes sense to use the yellow one for your primary, for reasons stated previously (conditioning).

Put your long hose on the port furthest behind you and the short hose on the port closest to your body. That is because the long hose will route down, while the short hose routes across your shoulder. If you put them the other way, your hoses will cross.

Thanks guys!

I don't know the brand of reg you have, but on some, you can just buy a new color face plate for the backup.
