I’ve been diving with a Zeagle express tech with the (essentially weightless) polymer backplate and 24 lb horseshoe wing on my last 100 or so dives. Diving in a 5mm full wetsuit, I use 12 lb of weight (2 lb on each shoulder and 4lb on each hip), and have been able to establish good buoyancy, trim and SAC rate. I’ve always been curious about using a weighted bp, and just purchased a used DSS bp/w with 17 lb torus wing and 6 lb SS bp (and I calculated that that lift will be just sufficient).
I’ll be diving with it for the first time in a few weeks and will be experimenting with trim, but thought I might try to get a heads up before then. I’ve read just about every post on bp/w but could not find anything addressing what difference I might experience going from an essentially weightless bp to a 6# bp. Can anyone suggest anything that might require a change in technique? And any suggestions where to place the 6 lb of additional weight (in addition to the bp) that I’ll need? Currently I have weight pockets on the hip straps.
Thanks
