I'm considering doing the PADI Divemaster course soon but I dive with tech/Hogarthian style equipment. Is this likely to be a problem, has anyone done their Divemaster course using this sort of equipment?

It's going to depend mostly on the shop that you do your course with. I did mine in a hog rig and my instructor didn't mind. I have been considering doing the instructor course and have been consulting some instructors about my gear. One instructor flat out told me that I would not pass his IDC or IE courses with a backplate and wing and told me that I would have to dive in a jacket BCD to pass (which of course he was happy to sell me one..).

See no issue at all for guiding qualified divers, DSDs and so on.

Demonstrating to students though is easier in the same kit.

Came to an "agreement" in work this year, my own gear for qualifieds, DSDs and all courses AOW and above but for OW i have to use a standard reg setup and borrow one of the scabby uncomfortable aqualung BCDs to keep it the same as students for clarity purposes. Cant see the issue with that provided i didnt have to buy a jacket BCD and only had to use it for OW courses to keep it the same as students.
Im guessing it could be the same with you.

My LDS wants me to wear a BCD in the pool, they have no problem with a BP/W in open water.

I have the same arangement as El O... and it makes sense. The pool demos need to be clean. In the open water you are not really demoing and so you should be able to wear what makes sense.

As to your DM course... it all depends on the instructor... if you work as a DM assisting classes in the pool you will also need a jacket style BC.

For Instructor... then you will need to go jacket all the way. There may be a very exceptional CD who does the IDC in Hog but you will need to look long and hard. At the IE you will be doing pool demos so you will use a jacket... and for rescue be kind to your fellow IE partners and use a jacket. You really dont want to force a buddy to pull you out of the bp/w rig.

Once you are certified you can work for the shop that fits with your style of diving. If do tours then it should not matter.

I'm not really interested in working for a shop - I'm more interested in doing DM to learn dive leadership skills. Of course, I still need to decide whether it's really worth it for that or whether I should concentrate on something else instead. My club has a DM information evening soon which should help answer those questions.
