Hello all - I'm an Australian now living in Washington State, USA. I do a lot of diving in the San Juans, remote areas of Vancouver Island, BC, Monterey CA and out by Neah Bay on the Olympic Peninsula. I typically log upwards of 120 dives each year - all cold water and ranging from basic fun dives in the shallows to deco dives in heavy current areas in the middle of the straits, as well as doing some search and rescue/recovery work for local authorities. My primary interest is underwater photography, but I do enjoy a little spearfishing from time to time.

I'm going to be bringing my 9yr old daughter back to Australia to visit with my family on the north side of Brisbane from November 6th through the 21st and want to get some diving in while I'm there. My daughter is a beginning snorkeler and I want to spend some time snorkeling with her - thinking about taking her on a day trip to Lady Musgrave Island. I understand that I might also be able to get a dive or two in on that day trip but that it may not exactly have maximum "wow factor". Any recommendations for that day trip and diving Lady Musgrave?

The weekends will be filled with family visits etc, but during the week I'd be interested in diving ideas between say, Gladstone at the north extent and Coffs Harbour in the south. I am looking for the kinds of dives that you locals would consider favourites - the ones you like to show off with pride. I would like to get some great photo opportunities, and I've seen some pretty cool spearfishing videos from the north coast of NSW - wouldn't mind experiencing some of that myself. I won't have a dive buddy with me, and I'll be a bit bummed if I get paired up with someone who'll huff their air and force me to return to the boat in 15mins - I'm pretty spoiled, generally diving off my own boat on my own schedule. Anyone out there with similar experience willing to show me your favourite local dives? Or just recommend sites and charter services? Willing to trade you for time out on my boat if you're ever over this way of course :) Thanks in advance!

Pete
