I visited Gilboa Quarry for the first time on 8/9/25 with my local dive club. The visibility was good and there were lots of sunken things to see. The entry and exit to the water was horrible. I believe we enter by the “Stairs of Death.” Someone was gracious enough to carry my gear up for me. The staff there however was unhelpful and rude. When you rent your tanks, they hold a form of identification and return to you when tanks are returned. I rented 2 tanks and had one refill for a total of 3 dives. Before leaving, I went to retrieve my credit card. Staff told me they had me down for 3 tanks instead of 2 and refused to return my card. I repeatedly explained that I only had 2 tanks and not 3. They kept me waiting around maybe 20 minutes or so while the rechecked records and made a phone call. In the meantime I did become irritated, and who wouldn’t? Eventually, my card was returned with no apology and no compensation for my inconvenience. The owner of Gilboa was aware of what happened. She made it look like I was at fault and that I was being rude. I will never visit this facility again. Rude staff and rude owner.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I always find the new staff at Gilboa to be very courteous and friendly, and a huge improvement compared to when Mike owned it. There’s nothing they can do about the stairs - the quarry has a cliff edge and it is what it is. You can always enter behind the office rather than up top by the stairs.

Overall gilboa is great. The stairs of death (last set furthest from the office) are terrible and need replaced. There are no runners in the middle to support them and at least one of the steps isn't even nailed on one side. Super bouncy and hard on knees especially loaded up in doubles with a stage and/or Deco cylinder.

Ahh, maybe this is what OP was talking about. I never use that set of stairs, and use the one at the "front" end of that row of docks.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I've had great experiences there, maybe the staff was having a bad day. The diving there is excellent and as someone pointed out there are other dive platforms you can dive from. While I understand your frustration, I'd recommend to give them another try AND to dive from another dock. Good luck and best wishes!

Be glad you never had the pleasure of visiting under Mike the former owner. He was a piece of work!
