Getting the Padi Advanced Open Water in Little Cayman

Hi,

I have the Padi Open Water (level 1) and 29 logged dives.

Do you think I can take the Padi Advanced Open Water (level 2) in 4 days in Little Cayman? Or, do I need 5 days to get it?

You can do it in as little as two days - maximum number of training dives in one day is three (PADI). PADI AOW consists of completing five dives: deep; navigation; and three others - they do not have to be done all in one go.

Do I have to take a multiple-question exam as well to pass the Padi Advanced Open Water? If so, I guess I should do that in my home country.

No, there are no exams. However, you will have to complete knowledge reviews for each of the "Adventure Dives".

Similar to the knowledge reviews you would have completed when you took your Open Water class. The knowledge reviews are found in the "Adventures in Diving" manual which your dive centre will provide as part of the AOW package.

The easiest way to get your AOW while on vacation is to go to the PADI website and do AOW eLearning program. That costs around $100. You print out your test results and take them with you on your trip. Once at your destination, you only need to do the dives. Since PADI allows 3 certification dives per day, your AOW dives can be done in 2 days.
Otherwise, you'll have to do the classroom time while you're on vacation, which to me seems a horrible waste of valuable dive time.

I would suggest that you consider using Dottie at Reef Divers for the course.

I have seen some of her instruction, and she is a top notch instructor.
