I just found out my Diving class starts the 3rd of March. Oh boy I'm starting to get nerves. Plus the guy who spent the money to get the class turned out to be a jerk. And he is my dive buddy. Oh great, I hope I can find someone else in the class. Anyway I want y'all to know who have read my threads elsewhere.

Tiffy, congradulations on finally getting to start! And don't worry about the jerk, just talk to your instructor on day one and be as open & honest as you can and your problems will be solved. That's what we get paid to do, solve problems! Don't be afraid to ask questions, and remember to have fun! That's why we do this to have fun. Plain and simple.

Hi Tiffy

Jerk or no, you are going to LOVE this; you have no idea how much fun is ahead of you, starting March 3 :)

Although the guy may have turned out to be a jerk, it does not mean you have to keep him as a dive buddy. I know you'll find suitable dive buddies as you get into diving.

As was stated in a another thread, one of the key things to diving is to relax. I know, you're thinking "yeah it's easy for you to say...." but it's true. Reading ahead like you planned to do will help get you over some of the fear of the unknown. Practicing when ever you can also helps - if you feel you need extra time on any of the skills, let your instructor or divemaster know and they'll help. It's not a race to the finish, it's a experience that you should enjoy.

Keep us informed on how your courses go. You'll love diving, and meet some great people.

Hey every thanks. You make this class seam easier than Mike has already told me. He said I wouldn't make it because I'm not in shape and that I'm plain stupid so I thank you all for all the advice.

You've already proved you're not stupid. You came here. And you want to dive.

On March 3rd I'll be in Homestead Crater. Mario will be off the San Diego coast looking for toilets. Got4boyz will be in Cozumel. Don will be in his stock tank doing who knows what. We'll all be diving with you, just in different places. Relax - enjoy. You'll love it.

Tiff,

This sport is more fun than you can imagine--so dump the jerk and dive in. Diving is a lot more fun when you are with folks you know, but you will be surprised at how easy it is to meet people on a dive boat.

In Northern California, where I live, there is actually a singles group for divers. Check with your dive shop or look for a scuba newsletter for your area. California has a very hefty monthly "paper" that has all sorts of listings.

Barbara and I will be in Maui on the 3rd, enjoying the fruits of diving. You, too, could be in that kind of picture some day.

You see, in just a few weeks you'll be able to talk like some of the others here, and say "On March 3rd I'll be diving . . .". The best I can say, "On March 3rd, I'm flying home after diving in Barabos for two weeks".

It's something to focus on - the goal of where you can be. Remember to check out the discussions in the "New 2 Scuba". You'll find that some of the questions you have will be answered there (and some you never thought of).

As you can see from the boards, there are a lot of divers with awsome personalities..I think you'll find that the jerk will be the one who doesn't fit in once the course starts. You'll probably meet some amazing dive buddies through your course. The others are right, talk to your instructor and most importantly have fun....

And keep us updated.

Cheers
