My significant other of 16 years wants to get married in coz. We have been there 6 times to relax and dive. This is a new subject for me. Has anyone gotten married there? Is it a big hassle to do this? Any info would be great.

I think some of the hotels really accommodate couples getting married. Interesting this year we had a passenger on the plane on the way down dressed in her wedding gown. The bummer for her was that we sat on the tarmac for 5 hours and she was in that dress for a total of 13 hours with flight and airport delays.

Absolutely! Check out Stephanie, THE Cozumel Wedding Planner www.cozumelweddingplanner.com Most of the hotels use her, that's how good she is. She handles every wedding as if it were her own. She will handle all of the legal paperwork, and every detail from the flowers to the reception. If you want small and simple, or a full out event, she can handle it.

Sorry if this sounds like an ad, but I have several friends and customers who have used her to plan their weddings and they all rave about her.

Additioanlly, you really do need a coordinator in order to do the legal ceremony, otherwise the judge won't marry you.

Look at stephanie's website and you'll find out a ton of information. You can also look at other weddings on the "Wed Pages."

Congratulations!

I cannot speak for Cozumel but my wife and I got married on St. Thomas. I could not have asked for an easier wedding. Almost everything went smoothly. The only snag was that we were getting married on the second day after we arrived, so on the way to our resort we stopped to get the license. That was a bit of a PITA while hauling luggage around.

Resort weddings are painless and easy, I'm sure you'll find Cozumel to be similar.

That is a good choice and you can also check out http://www.cozumelweddings.net/. I always like a couple of choices, so I can compare and get as MUCH info as possible!

I will step-up here and say that Stephanie is MUCH more professional and reliable. I know both of them.

My wife and I were married in Coz 3 years ago in March. We stayed at Iberostar but were married at a beach club, Nachi Cocum (sp?). I can't remember the name of the company, but Patricia (a Canadian from England) was our wedding planner and everything went great. Her daughter owned the company, maybe Christie knows. Barefoot on the beach, could not have been better. There are some hoops that you need to jump thru, let me know if i can help.

I don't know Patricia, although I am pretty sure she is Fiona's mother. Glad to hear you had a positive experience.

There is one other named Michelle who I don't kow but have heard positive things about her and her professional ethics.

I think Stephanie is the best one hands down. She is professional, ethical, and is very respected in the professional community here. It says alot that the top hotels in Cozumel and even some from Playa use her exclusively for people planning weddings at their resorts.

My wife and I got married on the beach across from Casa Del Mar back in 89 and did it all ourselves. I don't remember all the details but we had to go through the Mexican Consulate (we used the one in Chicago since it was closest). They were very helpful in providing what was needed and what to do. We sent birth certificates and copies of some other stuff and they sent us back some paperwork which we gave to the Judge in Cozumel. The scariest part was getting our blood test down there. It was an open air clinic with the old alcohol bottles filled with syringes. I told my wife that unless the needle/syringe comes out of a sealed Bard-Parker package this thought is over. Fortunately when it came to our turn they did pull out the packages so we went ahead. Thinking back, I don't remember if we ever got any results back. We had the bartender, maitre-d, and some waitresses from Casa Del Mar stand up with us. The marriage license is in Spanish and I joke with people that I'm not sure if I'm really married or bought property down there. Overall it was a pleasant and smooth experience. Typical of the people and Island of Cozumel!

SOunds like a great experience. However, things have changed and the judge won't marry foreigners without a coordinator to handle the paperwork now.
