I'm a Fish!
When a tragic event happens in a community that is the time to take advantage of public sympathy and support.

Call I what you want but a lot of things can happen if you jump on the bandwagon while the memories of the tragedy are still fresh in their minds.

I’m going to use Greg D. and the Moses Lake incident as an example. I don’t think he will mind.

Right now the public is very aware of the dog through the ice and the attempt of a 39-year old figure of their community losing his life trying to save it.

Every one of his friends, co-workers, acquaintances, animal lovers and the community in general is willing to help in any way they can. So let them help. Not only is that good for them and their recovery but it is the best thing that can happen to all of EMS in general.

Now everyone in the community knows here is a need for some specialized equipment. Let them get together and get it. A community the size of Moses Lake can easily raise $10,000 if they get together and organize things like Garage and Rummage Sales, Bake Sales and even going to businesses and getting donations. Even the schools can do things to raise money. Get it in the papers and other local media what your equipment needs are.

Hit EVERY business and don’t pass up anyone. The one you pass up may be the one that would write a check for the entire bill.

After an operation a few years back I mentioned how a DPV would have been nice and would have made our job easier. Within a week a small locally owned business purchased one for us. They went to our dive shop found out what we wanted and wrote a $3000.00 check. That is a lot of cash coming out of a small business. Now if one little guy can do that just think what a community banding together can do.

Virginia has an operation going on right now. Jump on the bandwagon and get community support. The people that wouldn’t give you the time of day prior to the tragedy happening will dig deep for you after words.

It isn’t begging, maybe it is, but in the long run it makes them feel good that they could help their community and it’s citizens. The general population has a grieving and healing period just like the victims and their family does. Helping us can help them during that process but the request has to happen while everything is fresh in their minds.

Now go out and drum up the help.

Glad to see that great minds think alike :D

we just talked to the local paper about our needs, they are going to do a story on us. We are also trying to get a flyer in the local nickel ads paper. Right now is the time to get people involved, when public awarness is the highest to our needs.

Rest assure we are on top of things, We are hoping to get 1 or 2 new vehicles out of this, along with the extra ice rescue tools we need.
