Dear GBR Experts,

My husband and I are planning our #10th anniversary in PD/Cairns. We'd love to do the liveabroad with Mike Ball (3 days Cod Hole) but would love to hear from y'all about the diving condition such as wind, current, vis, temp etc. I did researched a bit but appreciate hearing from diver folks who have been there..

When are you going? Conditions vary a lot during the year. Here is a link (see bottom of the page) to give a rough idea of sea and weather conditions Cairns Dive Trips Visitor Information

Mike Ball books up quite quickly so if you are looking to go in the next couple of months I would look to book it ASAP.

June - September is Minke Whale season and definately worth the effort to try and go then. Water a bit colder as it is winter but still over 20 deg C (70 deg F).

December to end Feb connsidered Cyclone season, so although great, warm weather can also get problems with cyclonic activity.

Hope that helps a bit!

Go north, choose the liveaboard that goes farther north as the farther north you go the reefs get better. Lizard Island and north will be your best diving. The Ribbons are great the farther north you go.
