That would be a shame, absolutely. Though, pointing out the US military did have a base there during WWII. That's how the Baltra airport came to be. When you drive through on the shuttle bus, you can still see the foundations and remnants. When they left, Galapagos residents took materials from the buildings to use in their homes. But wildlife absolutely paid a price. "On the Backs of Tortoises" is a really good book that talks about the impacts of the base and other human activities in the Galapagos over the centuries.

Hopefully even though there's an agreement, it never comes to light, though with the POTUS interest in defending the panama canal, a base in Galapagos does make sense unfortunately :( hopefully there's more environmental oversight then last time. Thanks for sharing!
