Hello Fellow Diving enthusiasts.....my wife and I are headed to the Galapagos next month(April) and will be aboard the Skydancer. Just wondering if we will be ok in 5mm suits or should we play it safe and bring the 7mm?

Thanks

Congrats -

I had a great week and a half on the Sky Dancer a couple years ago - we went in March, and I was wearing a 5mm suit, and I think that was the best choice for myself. There were a couple dives where we hit some colder currents and on those, I wouldn't have minded a bit more neoprene, but those parts didn't last long. If nothing else, they will probably have some shorties you could throw on over your suit. You might even want to take a hood; my wife wore one on a couple dives and it helped out a lot.

I would also suggest to your DMs that taking a panga out for a champagne at Darwin's Arch is a great idea.

I'd agree with the 5mm. I was hot at Darwin & Wolf and didn't wear a hood.

Only time I was cold was at Gordon Rocks. It was the last dive of the trip and I could have done without. Didn't see much of anything.

That said, my wife is a real wuss when it comes to cold and was glad to have her 7mm. :lotsalove: Not sure that helps, but FWIW.

Crawfish, I have current information - as of yesterday! My hubby, who works on Sky Dancer (and others) says that the water in Galapagos is "warm" right now. Keep in mind that definition is relative! warm by Galapagos standards should mean you'll be fine in the 5 mm suit.

Suzbo, that is good to hear! Please let me know if you get more feedback from your hubby on the conditions and what they have been seeing:).

Thanks
