i will be traveling in peru, bolivia, and maybe equador next month (october).

i can't afford $5000 live aboard trips at the moment, but i'd like to see whale sharks. is this possible? are there any operations that run from the main galapagos island to darwin & wolf (where i've been told is the only place with all the whale sharks and hammerheads) for not too expensively or for just a day or two?

no, liveaboard only. its takes about an 18 hr voyage to get to wolf and darwin and there is nowhere to stay except on the boat that got you there.

if you go to puerto lopez on mainland ecuador you could dive isla de la plata, there is an amazing gathering of giant manta rays there late july- early oct. dive with exploramar diving based in puerto lopez, great guys and it will cost you about 10% of the cost of going to galapagos.

the only ones that goes there are fishing boats, but you might have to help them fin the sharks after seeing them.
