Does anyone have any links I can hit up and read, regarding Gaitors? I did a google search and came up empty with only two hits with very little info.

I don't pump in a lot of Argon into my suit, just the bare minimal to keep off squeeze.

My fins tend to drop more often when I'm stationary. When I inject a little more Argon I get them from dropping, but I get the floaty feet syndrome.

Can Gaitors eliminate that feeling and provide a more streamline trim? Very intereseted in seeing people's perspective on them.

Thanks,

MG

It's probably a skill issue. Just a matter of getting comfortable with enough gas to float your feet/legs but not cause problems. As long as your suit fits well, I wouldn't both with gaitors. As noted above, they can also trap gas that you might want to get out.

I have a pair of "m" halycon gaitors that you can try out for cheap. Velcro still good, fabric not faded at all. Probably used them 15 times. $35 including shipping to CA lets you see for yourself. Retail price is over $100!

I've heard them being akin to fin keepers, and ankle weights.....A solution for a problem that shouldn't exist with proper technique and training.....

Do you even know what fin keepers do?? :shakehead:

Thanks for the offer, I might take you on that if I cannot remedie the problem within a couple more dives.

I think I might need the Large Halcyon since I have a thick suit, DUI CLX450, but I don't know.

Need to try both ways and see what might work, my suit does fit perfectly and I don't have extra fabric.

I also use Rockboots.

I know of the direct use which helps snug the fin to the foot...I've heard that they can help keep spring straps from eating away at the heel of a drysuit....

But what I was referring to was people using them to prevent a foot first ascent to the surface and ballooning the foot pocket to the point it pushes the spring strap off and the fin itself off.....:rofl3:

Miller,

Your thread has to be the most useful link in a very long time, how can I thank you. Oh how about I post a direct quote that helped me out from your link.

Large male alligators are solitary, territorial animals. Smaller alligators can often be found in large numbers in close proximity to each other.

Dude, you are too much... :rofl3:

Hey Mike, do I qualify as a small alligator trying to fit around a bunch of DIR large divers in close proximity?

Oh, and they make it harder to get the gas to go the other way when venting.....

Have you actually used gaitors?

I have had some H ones on loan to test them out for a while and getting air out of them is no issue (I really tested this). I don't know why people keep saying this, but they are generally people who don't use them.

Whether or not they suit the OP is another matter, but it won't hurt him to try them out. They are no big deal and can make diving more comfortable. I'd get them myself but given the price they are way down on my list of priorities.
