Has anyone found that it is a problem that the LCD powers down after a max of 3 minutes? What's the quickest way to activate once it goes off? Is there a way to disabe the power down?

In the menu there should be an option to turn off that feature.

There is no option to turn it of... only 10sec-3min. Stupid that the powersave cannot be turned off, it takes considerable time for the display to turn on so it could ruin the shot of your life...

I use zoom out to get the display back on, since I rarely zoom in under water.

Yes, you can change the power down in the menu-settings area.

The choices are:
10 secs
20 secs
30 secs
1 min
2 min
3 min
OFF/ON

I would not turn this to off. I did this once and drained battery overnight, by forgetting to turn the camera off.

Today was my 3rd time taking my G9 out diving. Prior to today, I did find the LCD's power saver function pretty annoying, because it kept shutting off on me; however, after reading this thread last night, I changed the power saver setting from 1 minute to 3 minutes, and it made an enormous difference, because today, as far as I'm concerned, it's no longer an issue - 3 minutes is more than enough time for me.

Thanks for the info!

On the G9, if the LCD shuts off and the camera is still on, just hit the button that controls the LCD display (bottom left button to the right of the LCD) and it'll turn back on in a quarter second or so.

Power-down is different from the LCD power off... That powers down the camera and not only the display.

Anyone know what the duration is when power-down is set to on?

SFDiver- are you using your G9 on Manual settings to shoot or the pre-set "underwater" setting already on the menu? I have just purchased mine. I was formerly shooting with the G7 on manual.

I just got back from a week in Bonaire with my G9 and Ikelite housing and dual 125 Ike strobes. I got this package to do TTL and the TTL did not work. I called Ike and they said to loosen the screws on the back of the TTL box because sometimes wires get pinched. I did that, and it worked for a while, then cut out again, and I could never get it to work. However, the strobes did work well on manual and I got quite a few shots that I liked:

However, not having TTL and having to adjust the strobes made me miss some great opportunities. With regards to the LCD and battery life, I found that my camera would run out of power on the 3rd dive and when you're diving all day and don't want to have to crack open the housing, this can be a little bit of a problem. My solution: I set the image stabilization and autofocus to only work when shooting--this causes a little bit of a delay in start-up but seems to help, and I don't try to take a picture of everything that swims by (probably a good habit anyway:-)

Hi Rescue Diver68,

I am absolutely using the manual settings to shoot my pictures. I primarily shoot on Av (Aperture Priority), and Occassionally use Tv (Shutter Speed Priority), but only if I anticipate shooting something fast moving. Both Av and Tv Modes provide the ttl signal to my strobes the optical cables I'm using, unlike shooting in M (Manual), which does not offer any ttl signal to my strobes with this camera. However, I do not use any preset "underwater" modes.

Not sure what kind of a setup you have for your G9, but please keep in mind that the modes I use apply to my setup, which include the Patima Housing and dual Inon Z-240 Strobes.
