Is anyone using a macro diopter for their ikelite housing (67 mm barrel)?

I'm wondering what is available and good, seems like the inon stuff is well respected.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Out of curiosity, what are you referring to??..Diopter is a unit of power measurement ie reciprical meters.....

Hi,

i'm using the term as a noun (and maybe improperly), for the macro lens attachments for UW housings to increase magnification (e.g. woody's diopter). Maybe there is a better term, as inferred, i am unfamiliar with the particular piece of equipment.

Thanks,
Scott

I use Inon UCL-165 close up lenses with my G9 in Canon housing. They have a focal length of 165mm making them +6.06 diopter. They have threads that allow them to be stacked. Two stacked lenses have a combined focal length of 82.5mm making them +12.12 diopter. The lenses are made of high quality optical glass elements designed to reduce optical aberrations and the inside of the elements are ant-reflection coated.

Hi Brian,

Yeah, i've seen your shots and set up, they are terrific, the colors and sharpness are way beyond what would be expected from a point and shoot... Your shots made me think about getting a little closer, i've stayed away because the quality on the G9 is not as good as i'd like for macro's, hoping to bolster it a bit by going through a close up lens.

do those lenses go direct on the ike housing?

you're rig is a modified Canon housing right?... any idea if modifications are necessary to hook up to the ikelite?

Thanks much,
Scott

No you don't, you need the flat port for the wide angle lens only. A macro lens will attach straight onto the standard port on the Ikelite housing.

As for the G series not being good for macro, here's a couple I took with my G7 and no attachment lenses. While an attached macro lens would make a difference, it works well without too :)

Hope that's some help!
Ryan.

Thanks for correcting me Ryan. As you say the optional flat port is only needed for the wide angle lens.

Those photos certainly show you can achieve great macro shots without the aid of the macro lens

That is true. It should be noted however, that you will need to zoom in a bit to get rid of the vignetting that occurs when using the UCL-165M67 close-up lens with the standard port.

Many thanks to all for the help, I e-mailed INON to make sure. Indeed, it works with either... just needs the 67mm threaded port

Thanks again,
Scott
