I'm looking for an underwater housing for my Powershot G3. I've found an Ikelite; however, the price isn't too "lite". Any other good housings out there that are reasonably priced? I've found a bunch on www.leisurepro.com but none for my exact camera. I was thinking of going to the local camera shop and seeing if there are any housings for another camera with the same dimensions as my G3. Any ideas?

I have a G2 and the only housing I found for my camera was a Ikelite housing which does not give you full control of the camera. It also costs over $600.00. I've thought about getting a canon A85 or A95 with a canon housing that will let you use all the features on the camera. You can by the A95 for around $300.00 or less and the WP-DC50 canon underwater housing for less than $200.00. Just me 0.02

The ikelites are actually not that expensive. For anything else that would fit your camera you will be paying more. The ikes have much thicker walls, and are far more robust than the canon housings. I would think that paying $500 for a canon A95 + housing would be a worse option than housing a G3. The G3 is an excellent camera and for the extra $100 you get a housing which is better quality, has a deeper depth rating and has superior options. The other features which are of interest would be the strobe bulkhead (enable to shoot external strobe without having to fire internal one as trigger), most compact ike housing use a standard 67mm thread for external lenses (ie. buy a wide converter now and it should be usable on your next upgrade), free tray and handle (this itself would cost a minimum of $100 if you purchase a canon housing).

There are other options (albeit more expensive), see Yuzo site;

Thanks a bunch for the info. I've been throwing the idea of getting a full underwater digi camera that already has a housing. I've found a Bonica Sea Pix 5mp for 520$ at http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/ItemIndex_13/CategoryID_971/Context_965/BONSP6.html
This would allow me to have a camera for each use and not have to worry about if a seal goes that I won't have a camera for a while (until the warranty kicks in). Any ideas?

The pictures from this camera will be nowhere near as good as your G3. You can get insurance to cover a flood from either DAN or DEPP. Note there is no warranty when using your camera underwater - even if it is in the manufacturers own housing. IMHO if you really need to get a second camera, do as murphdivers286 said and buy yourself another cheaper Canon and housing to suit. I have been using a A70 your can check my gallery for samples of what this can do - keep in mind the G3 would be even better. Even of only purely for the point it has a much wider aperture and hence avaliable aperture settings.

I Have a G5 and bought the 10bar housing for USD 500 directly from HK. Since last July I used it less than 10 times as I do not have so many possibilities to dive and I am satisfy with it. You have full control of every function of the camera and you will not have problem of depth.

Check at www.10bar.com

If you want to have further details do not hesitate to send me a PM.
