I've been using my old SD-770 with Canon underwater housing for years, with some surprisingly great results. The battery doesn't seem to hold a charge anymore, so I'm thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade my setup. I'd want some video, but mostly stills, including macro. The G16 sounds quite nice, but I realize it's now on the old side. Would it still be a good bet, or are there newer ones I should consider? This camera would be almost solely dedicated for underwater use.

Thanks.

I would suggest the Canon G7X. It's basically the replacement for the G16, albeit with a bigger 1" sensor.

The G7X Mark II has just come out, so housings will be coming in the near future. If you want to save a few $$, I would think there is still time to pick up a G7X, if you want a housing now.

Thanks. Since I posted the question I've found information on that and it does seem like the way to go.

I have been amazed at the quality of stills from Go Pro I have seen and if I was to buy a new camera that is the way that I would go. I am a diver who takes photos rather than a photographer who dives ie I dont want to make photo taking the objective of the dive.
