I got my Ike housing (thanks for their generosity in sponsoring the Cozumel Invasion) and started playing with it. So when I put the camera in the housing and slide on the TTL adaptor it seems to disable the onboard flash, and therefore it won't trigger my optical strobes.

Is there a way to disable the hotshoe function? Or what do I do with the TTL adaptor, if I don't fit it onto the hot shoe I'm afraid it will get in the way of the controls or get caught in the housing when I close it.

Or do I just NEED to bail on the optical strobes and get a DS51 set up?

The issue I am having is what to do with the TTL pigtail in the housing. If I leave it dangling, it is in the eay of the controls and the loop of wire could get trapped when I try to close the housing. I can partially insert it into the hot shoe, but if it slips all the way in during a dive, it appears that t would disable the onboard flash, and I would have no strobe.

You're going to have to find a place where it can sit UNCONNECTED inside the housing. If it's connected at all, the G12 assumes you're using an external strobe and disables the flash on the camera.

I use an ikelite housing with a G10, but the button arrangement appears similar to the G12.

I just leave the pigtail unconnected. I have never had any issues with it interfering, even when I don't pay particular attention to where it goes in the case.

Thanks for the input. I was actually able to use it without any problems at all for over 20 dives during the Invasion. I'm getting an Ike set up before my next trip.

thanks th Ikelite's generosity and support of Scubaboard by sponsoring the Bonaire Invasion 2013!
