Thoughts on the new G11? I understand dynamic range is greatly improved and some other nice things.

This is what gets my interest because it is the greatest weakness of my 570 and from what I see, the G9/10 as well:

"The PowerShot G11 also includes i-Contrast technology, which prevents high-light blowout whilst retaining low-light detail – ideal for difficult lighting situations."

What, you just bought a G10? ;)

doubt whatever it will fit the various housings made with that swing out LCD

any talk on housings for the near future??....

The new S90 looks like a winner too, hmmmm, and I bet I can make it work with my Inon stuff too.

Sooo, you just got a G10 ;).

The Canon is the WP-DC34.

The swing out panel flips and folds so it can be used in a normal fashion as well.

Soo, you just got a G10 ;)

Perhaps the dynamic range is improved due to the new sensor and lower resolution, but not by the i-Contrast system. From Canon's description, this just sounds like digital fill flash or curve adjustment (applied in software).

"DIGIC 4 also makes possible the new i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition. The PowerShot G11 can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated."

Canon decided to opt out on the mega pixel wars and improve the things that really matter and which have been greatly lacking in this class of camera, dynamic range, ISO range etc. In a postage stamp size sensor this mega pixel thing is out of control. Kudos to Canon, they have just about won me back, thanks Canon for these nice improvements. Howabout a full size sensor in the G12 and HD, nahh, don't want to freak the G10 people out with that.

Alas, the A590 is gone, :( .
