Hi! I tried to read myself through a lot of articles, but can't decide for sure.
What will be the difference between using a housing with a wetmount WA lens or a fisheye like the Ikelite lens for the G10? or maybe the two together? I only want a housing for a P/S camera with the biggest FOV which I can take down UW if I want to shoot a few cm something just 10 cm away from the camera. Can you help ? You know I start reading this and then that and at last I know nothing and just don't dare to start any financial movement.

No wet-mount option will work with the G10. The Ikelite adapter is not a "fisheye" it is just a dome that eliminates the magnification effect of viewing through a flat-port.

If you want true wide-angle the G10 is not a good choice. Look at the A series Canon's or Olympus.

apaka, I haven't heard of too many folks online that are using the new Ikelite Wide Angle Conversion Dome for the G10 yet, consequently, I'm not sure if anyone online is going to be able to give you that comparison advice, especially not from someone someone who has actual first hand experience yet, but maybe someone who has purchased and used one will respond.

I have a buddy up North that is waiting for Ikelite to ship his G10 dome to him, so I'm not even sure if Ikelite is shipping them yet, but they may be.

If you don't get the advice you need from someone knowledgeble online, you may want to consider touching base with a specialty underwater photo shop, as they can often be the best resource for this kind of info.

I personally use Reef Photo (Reef Photo & Video!, The Underwater Photo Pros) as my goto source, as they are local in my home town here in South Florida, and they are dealers and very knowledgable in the compatibility and performance of most major underwhater photo supply brands.

Good luck which ever way you go, and definitely keep us posted!

Mickey, it's my understanding that even though the G10 comes with the 28mm lens, the Patima G10 Housing will allow you to use wide angle 67mm wet mount lenses with the short port with no vignetting.

Thanks! OK then no G10, should I try an A 720 with Ikelite housing and a WA lens ?
I saw 2-3 types with the 67mm thread, which do you suggest? And if you do some maths for me, what will I have in FOV with the wetmount WA lens?

Ah. You are right. It works with WA adapters if you fix the camera to wide-angle zoom.

I don't think of that as a particularly favorable option but other may be fine with it depending on personal style.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Canon A590IS with Ikelite housing. This camera will work better than the A720 for wide angle because it has a smaller zoom ratio lens.

Then you will need to purchase the Ikelite/Epogue or Inon Type II wide angle lens. The resulting combination will give you an effective FOV of approximately 90 t o100 degrees. You can then purchase the Inon dome converter and install it to the lens and get an effective FOV of over 130 degrees.

You will also need an external strobe and Ikelite tray. I recommend the Inon D2000 strobe.

Canon A590--under 200
Ikelite housing--250ish
Inon 100 Type II--325ish
Inon dome conversion--390ish
Inon D2000--around 525
Ikelite tray--50 dolars
Ikelite ball extension--25 dollars

I have the 570IS with these items, it works very well The Ikelite housing and converter for the G10 will only produce a FOV of about 65 degrees.

The statements above are fact, I have tested the stuff, it is not speculation. Get the 590, not the 720.

I highly recommend Reef Photo, alternate source, Divervision.

You do not "zoom" any wide angle or wet mount lenses, it will create fuzzy edges, they are meant to operate correctly at the widest setting possible up to approx 32mm equivalent. For some cameras with 28mm equivalent native lenses, minor vignetting can be zoomed out very slightly or cropped. Again, you are not supposed to zoom these lenses therefore having the zoom locked INOP is no concern.

The Ikelite webpage claims this camera and housing will work with the wide angle lenses, so, go for it, my measurements make it suspect but maybe it will work.

Thanks Nemrod, I will follow your line, I'm hapy with the A590 because now I'm using a A85+canon housing+sunpak g strobe triggered with a fiberoptik cable, the A85 strobe masked out with a piece of plastic, so the a590 will be familiar. Only please exlain me what will the conversion dome do with the setup please!!! Thanks

No, the conversion dome is for the G10 housing and will allow the G10 to retain its full 28mm FOV underwater which will equal approximately 65 degrees. OK, but not great and not wide angle--underwater.

For the 590 or the 720 you were looking at you will need the Ikelite/Epoque/Inon (Type II) screw on 67mm wide angle wet lenses. These produce a FOV of around 90 to 100 degrees underwater. With the dome converter the Inon will be as wide as 130 plus degrees. Those are expensive lenses, true, but they turn the little lowly Canons into a Lexus with blow you away wide angle views the G10 can only wish for.

The camera that actually, the camera itself, that would optically work best with the wet mount lenses despite what Ikelite says is the Nikon P6000. I have taken several wet mount lenses and aligned them with the P6000 and optically it works but unfortunately none of the housings for the camera allow correct mounting of these lenses.
