Hi :) I'm going on a scuba diving trip in a few weeks to Mexico and am going to start my underwater photography there. I'm gonna start with my G10 and the Canon Housing (WP-DC28). But, I had a question. I'm staying on a beach that is in the middle of nowhere so we are camping on the shorelines. Now I want to take pictures on land as well as in the water. But I'm not going to want to take the camera out of the case after every dive and put it in before every dive, plus its dusty and dirty on the beach so that couldn't be too good for the O-Ring and such. Now my question is: Does the camera still take equal quality photos inside the case on land as it does on land without the case? Or do photos come out blurry or appear that they are behind plastic or does the housing blacken corners of photos (I saw that in the WP-DC28 review on here somewhere)? Will the Housing start to leak if the camera is kept in there for days at a time? Thanks for the help in advance :)

Nope- you'll be fine using it in the housing above or below. You may want to keep an eye on your battery life, though. That's gonna be the only real reason to open it up- provided that you've got a big enough memory card.

It will work perfectly in the W/P case on land. Just make sure you clean the lens of any dried (or wet) water spots.
If you are taking macro, you may get more flash shadow with the case than without it. If so, use the flash diffuser.
Try not to lay it down in the sand, but don't worry about the case getting dirty. Think of it more as protecting the camera rather than exposing the case :doh2:

I may be overly cautious with my camera, but you may consider adding tape over top the seal areas. What I mean by that is to put tape on the hard plastic to shield the o-ring from sand, dirt and dust. You can easily remove it wen opening the case and it will keep the vast majority of dirt away from the o-ring. I don't think it's necessary, but may help if your worried about o-ring damage.

Thanks everyone! Really helpful info! And that tape idea doesn't sound like a bad idea. Doesn't hurt to be more careful than you have to be :).

Interesting idea- I'd think that electrician's tape would work well for this- run a continuous bead of it all the way around the seal and be sure to stick tape to tape as a finish. Should seal out the crud quite nicely. Be sure to get it off of there when you're done- don't want any residue on the housing afterward.

Hi Scuba Steven, I have a Canon G7 with the Housing Canon WP-DC11, and i can tell you that it is better to use the housing sealed when you are on a beach to avoid the sand come into the camera.
Only be carefull to not leave the housing closed down direct sunlight because the hot temperature may damage the housing and the o-ring.
If you use the internal flash, pay attention, because the flash generate hot and it is possible that with humidity the glass become foggy.
The housing is watertight, so after every use (in the sea or on the beach) it is better to wash it in clear water, so sand or salt will be washed away.
Excuse me for my horrible English, because it is not my homelanguage.
Ciao.
