Does anyone have (or know where to find) instructions for opening a G15? It was flooded after 5 dives in Cozumel. Seriously do NOT consider the Canon housing. Spend the money for the Nauticam. It took great pix and video, but for now its toast. I'd like to open it and see if there's any hope (real or imagined) for fixing it, but on the extremely off off chance that it could be fixed, I don't want to destroy it further during the opening process.

Thanks in advance.

George

If you managed to remove the battery and dunk it in fresh (prefer distilled) right away, you might have a chance. there's screws all along the seam where the front and back of the case meet.

Wanna sell the housing? :)

Definitely get the battery out. I have saved a few things here and there by leaving them in uncooked rice (battery out) for a few days immediately after flood/submersion, but never had luck saving a flooded camera. I am 0-2 with Canon housings, so I know your frustration.

Sorry to hear that your housing flooded.

a couple of hundred dives and something like 4000 pictures later, my canon housing still is in perfect working order..
It doesnt take much to make any housing leak though and thats why you get insurance on more expensive setups.
Im really sorry for your loss, it sux balls when a camera flood, but going on in your first post ever on the board to bash all their housings and plugging the nauticams - thats nothing but agenda in my eyes..

I wouldn't be too fast to rush to judgment about some "agenda." He's probably pissed that his new camera flooded...can't say I blame him.

. . . and he probably thought about and decided against a nauticam. . . .

I wouldnt either if it wasnt for the fact that hes never posted anything on SB before..
And as I said it both suck and blow at the same time to ruin your camera, so I understand being pissed about it..

Hey George, I know the feeling, except I had a flood on the first dive of a new housing (different manufacturer). Cause was a fault in the lens mount. Manufacturer replaced it with an upgraded housing to go with my upgraded camera that my insurance paid for.

can you provide any details on the cause of the flood?

P.s. your camera is toast. The salt water will have corroded and / or eaten away all of the leads on all the very very tiny surface mount ics inside it. It is now a paper weight.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I got careless and found a stray hair caused a leak in my uw housing. Just about a thimble full of water. The guys on the dive boat tried their best but it was shot. And quoted 250 just to get the camera guys to look at it. Just bought a new camera. Interestingly, the battery and SD card work fine.

250 bucks to have someone look at a camera - yeah, thats a pretty damn big step towards just getting a new one and be done with it.. Thats probably why they charge that kinda prices in the first place tbh..
