Hello,

In february I'm going to Sulawesi. On the way there I have 2.5 hour stopover in Singapore, so I will stay on the airport.
But on the way back the stopover in Singapore is 6:45h. Since I have never been in Singapore, I would love to have a look around there.
Does anyone have experience with stopovers in Singapore?
Can it been done in this time?
Quick and cheap transportation airport - city center?
Where to go in Singapore (it will be evening between 17:00 and 24:00)?

Any suggestions more then welcome. :cool2::cool2::cool2:

Taxis are cheap and it won't take you long to get to the city centre, though I wouldn't do it for that short a layover. Singapore Air do a bus tour from the airport that might be an option, particularly if you don't know exactly what you want to see.

I personally would just stay in the airport. There's a free movie cinema, plenty of shopping, lots of bars, get a massage, visit the butterfly garden or just take a nap in the airside hotel.

If you use the MRT (subway) from the airport it'll take you less than 45min to travel from the Changi Airport to the city center by alighting at Orchard MRT station. The fare will cost you around US$1.50 each way.
You could also stop at Clarke Quay MRT station for pubs and food.

Here's a link to the MRT network map

If its a weekday, 1700hrs might not be the best time to be taking a taxi into the city center since everyone will be out on the roads driving home. Might end up taking the same time as the MRT to reach Orchard. On top of that, there'll be a 35% peak hour surcharge and a toll for entering/exiting the city center which will be charged to your fare.

I just had a nice 11hr stop in Singapore. Getting out of customs was quick and painless. We took a cab to the "Little India" (so I was told it's called, I am not sure if it has a proper name) area where a friend was staying, had a nice meal, then did some walking/shopping, and ended our time at the Night Safari which was really fantastic and well worth it. We decided on taxi vs bus/train to save time in transit from place to place. The next time I am there, I will leave the airport again for sure. Singapore is a fantastic city. I left wishing I had a few days to explore.

Changi is a great airport for layovers but if I had that time, I would definitely get out and enjoy something of the city. Hanging out in airports is a necessary evil of traveling - not a destination in itself. Go have a meal and walk in Chinatown, Little India, Arab Street, Boat Quay or Clarke Quay. Choose any one (don't try rushing around to more than one) and you will have a good time. You'll need some S$.

No one has asked whether you are landing during CNY. If so and you wish to take a taxi you may not find many around especially by midday. Otherwise its real nice down city centre. I would book 2 nights to really sample the best shopping and eats.
