I don’t get it, what is the Friends List for?

One thing you can use it for is to open a "buddy window."

If you look at the top red toolbar under Quick Links and scroll down you'll see "Open Buddies Popup" Clicking that will open a pop up window of your friends and buddies and you can see who is currently online. Some people like keeping track of that stuff.

I didn't know that! BTW, my toolbar is not red. Isn't the default blue?

It is like high school. The more friends you have the more popular and cool you are.

Well.... that's just wonderfull. There goes my delusions of being cool

It also enables you to say "Fine, then I won't be your friend any more," which otherwise we haven't been able to say since Kindergarten.

That's interesting. Thanks!

It's nice to "befriend" those who you always chat with, or may want to contact in the future.

A "friends list" is an easy way to have quick access to certain users :).
