They provide some function for stealth, but I think they look cool. If a camo suit costs no more than a boring balck suit, why not buy a "pretty one"????

Freedive suits provide some important advantages over scuba suits.. they are generally much warmer becaus they have a smooth rubber interior, no zippers and an attached hood. This combination reduces leakge into the suit tremendously and the smooth rubber interior, helps to reduce migration of water that does get inside. The attached hood (to the jacket) helps too.
 
My experience is that a good camo pattern is worth about a meter of "sneak up" distance.

There's lots more hunters than competitive/recreational freedivers, so there ya go...the market drives the designs.

Since you're into photography, camo has it's benefits for that, too, whether you shoot a fish or take a pic, closer is better!!
