My 13 y/o son is in the middle of his PADI O/W certification course (his 1st pool cession is tonight).

I'm not sure that I want to buy him a BC because he will outgrow in in short order. But, the dive shop said something about an upgrade program for junior divers where you buy them equipment and are able to upgrade once the grow out of it. I think he said it's up to age 16.

Have any of you heard of such a program?

Great that you're introducing your kid to this wonderful obsess...ehh...uhmm...;)

The gear upgrade program may be something your LDS is arranging -- and it sounds like a really great idea, considering how fast teenage boys outgrow stuff. You should ask them for details.

DiveRite offers such a program. I believe it is with their TransPac system. I'm sure others here will be able to offer more specific info.

Be advised, my 17yo son is on his 3rd drysuit. Your LDS is making a very wise business decision, as a child gets involved in the ...

cheers,

Thanks mavjax! I'll check it out.

PS Make that his first pool "session"... which went very well.

You can also look at the Zeagle Concept II. It is VERY adjustable and probably could just adjust with his growth.

otter,

Checked out the Zeagle Concept II, and it is definitely the way to go. My son is already pretty big (5'6 - 120) so it does not make sense to go with a "junior" size.

Thanks!!
