If you are staying in Phuket Town and have time to spare before travelling to somewhere else then this service is very useful. The schedule is every 15 mins from 11:00 to 22:00 covering 16 designated stops. The proper name of this service is Dragon Line.

There are three AC EV bus routes covering some interesting destinations in Phuket Old Town
Route 2 serves between Bus Terminal 1& 2, replacing the old pink truck. Pity but the fare is still B15.00. T2 is where the bus departs to other destinations in the Kingdom eg. Bangkok.
One of the other route serves between T1 and Rassada Pier + others. This route is good to those who are taking the speed boat to either Koh Phi Phi or Koh Lanta. No need to take the expensive taxi.
Not sure about the route but probably covers Phuket Central(huge shopping mall). The orange airport bus also passing the outside of this mall.

interesting, thanks.
last time i was in Phuket I stayed by Chalong Pier for ease of diving day trips. I prefer to stay in denser urban walkable areas when possible though.

It looks like diving out of Rassada pier would make it convenient to stay in Old Town or one of the surrounding areas, is that what you would recommend?

Chalong Pier is best to those on day trip out from Phuket.
Old Town is great to those who are intended to leave the island to eg. Khao Lak(Khao Sok), Koh Phi Phi, Krabi, Koh Lanta etc etc.

You will enjoy Old Town if you prefer to stay in "denser urban walkable area". Actually the town is very quiet and not build up at all.

Weather has been quite miserable over last few days and the long term forecast is NO better. Left Phuket Town couple of days ago and is now in Ranong and heading towards Chumphon and then slowly travel up north to Bangkok by train. It is the best way to see the Kingdom even sitting in a 3rd class non reserved carriage. Can't do that on a bus, plane or taxi or chartered van.

Khao Lak was dead quiet and the bus made one brief stop without dropping/picking any passenger. It is indeed the low season/green season(awful vis). However, when I was waiting for the bus at T2 there were a lot of backpackers going to Surat Thani, probably on the way to those three islands on the Gulf.
.

Train from Bangkok to the North is NOT running because of severe flooding in the central provinces while to the South has not been affected.
But some areas in Bangkok are also affected by the flood.

Army check point!!!
On the way to Ranong and onward to Chumphon. I had to show my passport on both occasions.
I cannot remember that was the case when I travelled to those four
troublesome provinces down south, Hat Yai, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat couple of yrs ago.
Cambodia is several hundred km away, unless there are looking for undocumented Burmese.

Ranong-Chumphon is the main route for illegal migrant worker from Myanmar. Large Fishing Industry in Chumphon need them.

How often the Police raid the fishing factory and market around the area?
It is easier and safer to catch illegal than insurgent down South.

Things are complicate in Chumphon. There are large number of migrant workers in the area. This include both Legal and Illegal worker - and they do mix in workplace.

It is never easy because we have the same issue in HK.
Even a hefty fine for the employer would NOT stop people taking a risk.
