Wanted to invite everyone to attend a free seminar on the basics of underwater video hosted by NYUPS, The New York Underwater Photo/Video Society.

I will be presenting a seminar for people just starting out or curious about shooting underwater video. The first question that everyone has is what camcorder/housing should I buy and how much does it cost? If my budget is $500, $1,000, $1,500 or more, what can I expect my raw video footage to look like?

I will be showing footage from over 15 different systems at different price levels. I will also cover the basic differences between shooting video vs. stills. Technical aspects of different kinds of video equipment, as well as basic shooting techniques, and basic editing will be covered. After the seminar we will have equipment for people to handle including camcorders, housings, lights, and accessories.

Seminar will take place 7:00 PM, Tuesday June 1st at the Artica Bar & Grill in Manhattan, 384 3rd Avenue, NY, NY.

Additional information on NYUPS as well as samples of my video work can be found in my signature links.

Hope to see some Scubaboard people there !!!

Would be nice if you could have someone video your presentation and post it here or wherever for those of us who live too far away. I'd love to see it.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

Not sure a video of the presentation will come out well. It will be dark and I would have to wear a mic to make decent audio. Plus you would never be able to hear the questions from the audience.

I will say it was very interesting for me preparing the presentation. Seeing and comparing footage from so many different systems was fun.

Well good luck with your presentation. I'm sure it will be very informative.

I have got to be one of the unluckiest people ever.

Live in florida and decided to come visit my parents in new jersey may 25-may 31.

Since tickets are already bought my departure time is set in stone. I really really hope that there will be a video recording of your presentation.

I have watched Anne Crawley's dvd on scuba diving so that sharpened my skills a little. I plan to do a lot more video taping this coming season.

I have bonica hddv 1080/720 camera with focus lock.

Anne's DVD is very good. She is a pro, has a lot more knowledge and experience than I. Her DVD covers way more stuff than I will in my presentation.

I think the only thing you would be missing would be the question/answer interaction and the opportunity to see footage from a lot of different systems back to back. That might help if you are in the market for a new system.

The Bonica is small, convenient, inexpensive. Get the filter if you don't already have one, keep the sun at your back, and make a strong effort to stay super steady.

Feel free to ask questions here on the board. Myself, Steve an many others are always willing to offer advice and help.

How did the presentation go Ron?

Presentation went well. I had a 29 page powerpoint slideshow on the HDTV screen and printed handouts of the slideshow to the audience so they could follow along and take it home with them if they wished.

I think the audience liked the sample footage portions best. I provided technical information on different systems, immediately followed by sample footage. Started with old point and shoot cameras, progressing to GoPro HD, Flip Ultra HD, modern point and shoot cameras, SD consumer camcorders, HD consumer camcorders, HD prosumer camcorders, HD pro camcorders.

With the sample footage, people saw the differences with their own eyes. The sample clips of auto vs. manual white balance, filters no filter and SD vs HD were also appreciated.
