I'm working part time at Loch Low-Minn quarry, I get a little bit of cash (I mean very little) but I get tips (which has opened my eyes) and free air. Anyway, I'm weedeating around the office and shack. I get around back and find an OLD steel 72 and a BCD attached to it. The damn BCD still had air in it, and the steel 72 which is pealing paint like crazy still has 2100PSI. I just cracked the tank and checked it out, it is in pristine condition. I'm going to see if the owners will let me have it. The last Viz for it was in 2002. The tank was made in 1973!!! I'm going to try to figure out who the maker is. Who ever owned it painted it, and even pin-striped it. It looks quite 1970's. I'll see if I can't get some pics later. The valve is in great shape as well.

I'm pretty impressed, this thing was literally sinking into the ground and the BCD was all faded out.

The zinc coating on those puppies was legendary. If no rust, you got a new friend. Get it hydro'ed as it still had pressure. The spec on that tank is 2250 psi. I'm betting that it is pristine inside. quarry = no salt.

Please let us know if you were able to get another "old soldier" back into the fight.

72's don't get much respect because they don't hold tons of gas. But when you don't need tons of gas, an old, solid, trusty 72 will allow you to knock off a dive, time after time...

I have 2 us divers 72s from the 60s. They make great doubles. And then another one from the late 70s branded by scuba pro that I love to use on the 40 ft dives and hull cleaning. My favorite tanks for buoyancy size weight characteristics. Not my favorite for deeper NDL dives.

Here are some before and after pressure washing with a 2k pressure washer.

The pressure washer was a great idea for removing the paint, it looks like it did a great job and didn't touch the galvanizing underneath.

I got after it with my finger nail and then an old sonic card. i cleaned off a bunch more. The bottom looks good as well. There is some staining where it laid on the ground. It is smoother where the discoloration is located. It looks good. I'll get it inspected and set aside for hydro the next time they do a batch.

If the wabi didn't look so cool I would do something with it.
