Looks like during the 08-09 school year I'm going to get a sabbatical leave. The work that I will be doing is concerned with revisions on an academic book; so it doesn't really matter where I do the revisions and my university wants me to go out of the country if possible (and in my case, no kids in the home, it is). So, I'm thinking of going to the Carribean (not Pacific because I want my wife to be able to visit during breaks, and I will need to be back in the states a couple of times...). So, my needs are pretty simple, a place to stay that is relatively comfortable but within reason for month to month rents; good internet access so I can access the library; and of course some diving that I will enjoy. I've been to Ambergris Caye a few times, really like the people, and know some folks in San Pedro, so its high on my list. But I'm wondering what folks on the board might think. So, have at it.

Thanks,

Dave

Cozumel. Ditto.

I love coz; its a great place to go for a week or two, but I fear that after a few weeks I would wind up in a Mexican jail because I'd go nuts with all the cruisers. I'm not big on casino or cruise people so I'm looking for a site with less single day tourism.

Bonaire, they have monthly rentals. I have met some people that where there for a month at a time. If you get a close to town Apartment you wouldn't need a car.

Edit: P.S. Do you need an assistant? Ok I'm Jealous.

How does one convince their wife to let them run off to the Caribbean for a school year on their own?

BTravlin,

She spent her sabbatical last year in Europe...all the great capitals. I bided my time and made my own plans...

Lottie, that link seems to be broken, but I would be glad to check it out if you can provide a good link.

Thanks all

Dave

Bonaire or Roatan would be worthwhile to look into ... and perhaps Utila.
