I am getting different reports about what footware is allowed/recommended for liveaboards and wondered what everyone else has found. We don't want foot-rot or foot-fungus from wearing dive booties all day so what should we bring? Sandals, flipflops, barefeet only? Everyone we know says something different!

We are going to be on the Nekton the end of next month........

thanks!

Barefoot most of the time, but I find a pair of flipflops come in handy, or something easy to kick off. Sometimes there are areas where the deck is hot in the sun or has a surface hard on bare feet, or maybe you just want to put something on your feet for a change.

You might want real sandals for when you're back in port at the end of the trip if you're going to have time to kill.

We were on the Pilot in December and went barefoot the entire week. However, we saw some folks with flip flops and some with those new foam clog things that everyone is wearing. It's whatever you're comfortable with, but I'd say if you're unsure bring some comfortable footwear so you have a choice.

Been on both Nekton boats several times and from my experience you DO NOT need shoes. If you have really tender feet or just don't like being barefoot maybe a pair of light weight flipflops would suit you. I took a couple pair of shoes on the first 2 trips and they sat in my cabin. Even the dive deck can be navigated barefoot without worries. This past March we were in Belize on the Pilot and wore booties and open heeled fins but after getting home we decided to buy some full foot fins for our next cruise. We'll be wearing thin lycra socks with those fins.

Depending on the itinerary, about the only thing you really need shoes for is a shore excursion. In Belize they run a shuttle ashore on Half Moon Caye and for that you need a Teva sandal or something like that.

By the way ...if you have any more questions about the Nekton feel free to PM me (us).

Crocs - http://www.crocs.com/home.jsp. I'm not a big flip flop or sandal person. I love these things.
oooh, those are cool! I think I will order a pair - not just for the liveaboard but anytime I am diving they would be great to put on so booties can dry out.

thanks everyone!
I think I will get a little pair of flipflops (if I don't want to go barefoot) and also maybe some of the crocs.

Crocs all so ugly and so nice. I got my first pair at Christmas and they are great! I don't care if they consist of 6 ounces of cheap chinese rubber that should cost $3, I will pay $30 for my next pair.
