I know why flying and diving dont go together and I know the basic flying after diving is bad.

but waiting 12 hours or 24 hours depend on the depth and amount of dives? or is 24 just extra precaution? also how about diving after youve checked in to your hotel and gotten everything situated?

I just prefer to wait for 24 hours to fly......as to arriving at my dive destination I am in the water asap.:D

No problem diving after flying.

These are the DAN recommendations for flying after diving.

New Guidelines

> Flying after a single no-decompression dive: A minimum preflight surface interval of 12 hours is suggested.

> Flying after multiple no-decompression dives in a single day or multiple days of no-decompression diving: A minimum preflight surface interval of 18 hours is suggested.

> Flying after dives requiring decompression stops: There is little experimental or published evidence on which to base a recommendation for decompression dives. A preflight surface interval substantially longer than 18 hours appears prudent.

I personally try to plan for 24 hours, but I am not going to worry if the airline schedule makes it difficult as long as I get at least 18 hours. I don't do dives requiring decompression stops.

All I can tell you is my computer said no fly 24 hours after my diving. I think it has more to do with your number of dives and frequency of diving and dive profiles. 24 is sort of a blanket time you'll be ok. I could be wrong though.

I've hear lots of people say different things about diving right after your fly. One good explanation I've heard is that traveling is really hard on your body. Being in a cramped airplane, often times not eating for a long time and not getting much to drink, being sleep deprived and jet lag can all be really hard on you. Which could, I suppose, increase your risk of dive related injury. But I would assume this varies by person.

I rarely travel, and when we got to jamaica last saturday, I was in no shape for diving. We were up at 3 am and went no stop traveling till 4pm. I hadn't eaten anything since 4 that morning, only drank a little bit of juice and was going on a few hours of sleep. We left MN and it was 30 degrees and we got there and it was 85. All of that stuff just wiped me out. It would have been unsafe and unfair to the other divers for me to go out. I actually waited till monday to dive. I'm sure there are people that are much more used to flying that would have had no issue going out and diving that day.

Your computer's decision about flying was determined by whoever programmed it and whatever opinion he or she had about it.

BTW, DAN's recommendation about flying assumes an altitude gain of at least 2,000 feet. Some island hopping flights stay lower than that. Additionally, aircraft are pressurized to roughly 7,000 feet, so if you did your diving at some high altitude site like Lake Tahoe, you are theoretically ready to go immediately.

I guess I could have clarified a bit. Your point is the one I was trying to make.

Hello Friends..
I am new to the diving and after diving I feel very weak.. In the few days I have to fly Europe and its quite a long journey so I was wondering to know whether I should continue diving or stop it for few days? I don't want to feel weak and tired all the way to journey..
