Leaving soon for our 1st trip to AKR. We are staying out on the key. One of our favorite post-dive activities is to float in the water with a beer and a floatie/pool noodle. Is this possible from the key? Is there access to the water? Will we get run over by a dive boat?

There is no beach, only the boat dock. There is a small shore-diving area accessible from the Key, but I don't know if it would be fun to float there. There is a pool, though.

You'll be fine. Ask around when you get there. I don't want to spoil it, but yes. You can float around later on. Pack a snorkle.

Jealous. That's my favorite dive spot.

Good to hear. I think I'll make a run to Walmart to get some kind of inflatable. In Bonaire, we found a place that sells foam pool noodles - we get a couple of those on the island and then give them to a new arrival when we leave.

Where do you put the smokes

So...There is a place to float, but...the water under those permanent rings is belly-button deep, so you'd have to go where the green water starts. It's green because the bottom is covered in turtle grass. It's calm in this picture but there was usually a slight current running left-to-right, so it might be hard to stay in one spot. We passed up the ocean floating and opted for the pool instead.
