Flight & Hotels in KK/Tawau.

I am flying from Bali to KK on Air Asia.
I am unsure whether to overnight in KK (I arrive at 17.30) or get the evening connecting flight to Tawau (departs 20.15) & overnight there.

Also on my return from Borneo divers resort should I overnight in Tawau and get the direct morning flight to KL or fly to KK in the afternoon on my departure day from Mabul?
I will be heading to Bangkok after Borneo.

Any decent hotel recommendations for KK/Tawau??

I assume KK will have more facilities/better hotels?
I would greatly appreciate any Travel/Accom tips for KK/Taw

We've stayed at the Belmont Marco Polo Hotel in Tawau on several of our trips to Sipadan and were quite happy with the hotel.

Last time we had to overnight in KK we stayed at the Hyatt Regencey right in the middle of downtown and had no complaints other than they didn't have a free airport shuttle service but the cab ride wasn't too bad.
