This is a great way to recycle fishing line we often run across while diving in the lakes and rivers. In past we have collected and just thrown in the trash. However, this is a much better option. We have volunteered our dive shop to begin collecting.

This is an group which will accept clean monofilament line and will send to recyclers to give it new life in another form.

TX Monofilament Recovery & Recycling

When collecting fishing line, divers must be extremely careful of the handling and collecting. The line can have hooks or a diver can become entangled if not careful. Ensure to have cutting tools and a collection container.

If any of you, or a dive shop/bait store are close to a waterway where a lot of fishing is done, please volunteer or encourage that establishment to setup a collection bin and participate in this program. Even if not close, like us, you can still collect from others and then ship off.

I don't think I need to remind anyone of the devastating effects fishing line has on the environment. This is a great way to recycle and possibly save the life of critters who often become victims of entanglement.

During trash clean ups, this would be a great way to collect this stuff too.
