I'm heading to Fish rock to do some diving, it's going to be a 6 hour journey but I've been told it's worth it.

So I've looked around and it seems there are 2 local dive shops, Southwestdive and fishrock.

From those I can see that the invaders use the fishrock one, but has anyone any experience of the southwestdive dive shop as a comparison?

Just wondering on any personal views before I book one up.

Many thanks for any replies

I have dived both shops, have not had a problem with either, however havent dived with SWR dive shop since Noel died and Beinda left.

One reason i dive with Fishrock is that you have a greater chance of the dive boat being less full, have dived there when my wife and i were the only two on the boat, consequently you can do whatever you like.

Oh and also Jon is a great person, captain and guide as is Larry and the rest of the team!

I am sure you will have a great time whoever you dive with!

I have dived a couple of times with SWR Dive Center. Both times it was awesome. We were there with a big group, so stayed upstairs which was very convenient.

Enjoy your diving! Hope the vis is good and you see lots of sharks!

Hi there... I am fish's other half...as he said we have dived with both altho not since "the boys" took over. We have friends who dive with them and are very happy with the service.

I have been very happy with the way Jon runs his operation and particularly the boat handling as I have a bad back and get seasick if exposed to fumes. They are really good at making sure I get the best spot to avoid seasickness.. and even in rough conditions keep things smooth. I ruptured a disk on a badly operated dive boat (not in SWR) so I stick with Jon because I am so comfortable with the way they operate the boat. I am not hinting that the other op is any less good.. just that I have gotten such good care that I feel they have earned my support.

The other thing I like is the accommodation at fishrock (Costa Rica Motel is attached to the dive shop). We stayed in the other place but it wasn't of the same standard.... nothing wrong with it.. I just don't really like the "dorm" or multi person accommodation. I know you can use the dorm at fishrock too but I prefer the privacy to saving a bit of money.

If the dorm type of facilities are comfortable for you and cost is an issue you may want to get a quote from both.

In the end.. they both go to the same sites... seem to have a friendly relationship and I haven't heard of any problems with either. I am sure you will enjoy the site no matter who you dive with... it is an absolutely wonderful experience!

Let us know how you enjoy it.. would be lovely to see some pics :D

Have used both operators regularly, and am happy to recommend both. The only comment I would add is that, because SWR is a bigger operation, your chances of a dive are often higher.
