Small fish larvae have difficulties feeding because of the hydrodynamics at such small sizes. This likely explains their high mortality. The physics of this problem the fish face are not trivial, and we try to explain them with some humor. An analogy which is sometimes used is that the feeding of tiny marine animals is "like eating marshmallows underwater without hands." We tried:
