Ok kind of a long story, but i might have had one of these brilliant ide's that come to you late at night...as i was updating my website, running as WORKING sql database to serve my pictures and running the first few queries .

I remember in highschool we did plant indentification by one of those booklets, what is it called again.

It asks you for the leaf shape, you select from a set of answers and go to the indicated next step, the size, its flowers and so on,

Now would it not be possible to create a database like that which anyone could host or maybe scubaboard is even interested in hosting for us... [hint hint]

Now I can imagine that the drawings in most booklets are copyrighted but there are enough photographers here to make this work.

Make sections for: size, colour and head, gills, fins, tail, fangs, barbels and so on, with little drawings in black and white (less confusing).

Visitors will be able to specify details by tickbox beside the pictures or selecting sizes.
and the clicking the ok search button will return pictures of possible fishes (One does not have to select all options, but the more the bettert) with names.

Now I'm not a huge SQL wizard but I'm hoping that with the combined intellect here we might be able to kick something off.

UNLESS something like that already exsists..... in which case send me the URL ;)

Fishbase is fantastic . I did my FISH ID Booklet for species around Goa referencing from Fish base.

**** someone nicked my idea and the got it up and running as well

although:
Error Occurred While Processing Request

Error Diagnostic Information

An error occurred while evaluating the expression:

#group# is "identification"

Error near line 21, column 14.

Error resolving parameter GROUP

ColdFusion was unable to determine the value of the parameter. This problem is very likely due to the fact that either:

1. You have misspelled the parameter name, or
2. You have not specified a QUERY attribute for a CFOUTPUT, CFMAIL, or CFTABLE tag.

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (CFIF), occupying document position (21:1) to (21:34).

My shot does not look anything like the specimen shown in their DB but the simmilarities are enough.

At least i can start cataloging my fishies now..... the search functionality works a treat. They earbned a link in my link page
