I've traditionally been a underwater still photographer, but since i got the canon 5D mark 2 i've been able to shoot a little video. The white balance sucks, but otherwise I would appreciate constructive criticism.

by the way, this stuff is harder than stills...

That place looks fantastic. Awesome with the tigers. Is this the place were Jim Abernathy takes his boat?

Not bad! You need to get copy write free music so you won't run into any problems! The composition was good, but you do stills, and video is just a bunch of good stills put to gather in order to tell a longer story! The white balance is a small problem and might be over come in two ways, one possibly by programing the camera, or post production with Vegas or Avid??? You have the basics, but I am still not convinced about a non-dedicated video camera? Over all good job!

Nice video. Gotta love the full frame wide angle of the 5D. I have a 7D and like the 5D, it's awesome for topside video.

The only reason I think you find video harder than stills is because you are using the 5D. For underwater video, a camcorder is still the way to go. The main problems with DSLR for UW video is the focus and white balance.

On a dive like Tiger Beach with it's fixed shallow depth, all you would have to do with a camcorder is set manual white balance, periodically reset focus, press record and point the camcorder.

i think white balance can be helped with a magic filter, but it probably only helps to a certain depth. thanks for watching...

The problem with a filter is depth and where the filter goes! It works best if it is removable so when you hit 15ft things don't turn red! So how do you do that with a lens mounted filter? I can watch UW video all day!

I hear what you are saying about the music, but i would like to get on a small soapbox for a moment. and this is directed at the music industry and not you:

videos like this are free advertising. free. i put this music in my video, and everyone who has seen it wants to know what the music is, and no less than 4 people that i know personally have downloaded this song. so that's $4 if revenue for the record company, and i have made .... let's see, lemme count, nothing!!! in fact i'm the one that did the work!!!

ok sorry to rant, but when youtube and facebook make you take off copyrighted music, it irritates me. and yes, i pay for all my music. the artists deserve to get paid for their work, i just think and hope that videos like this help them sell more music.

there. that felt good....

I hear you and some smaller artists have given me permission to use their music. with credits, at no cost! But it should be their choice, Mom always taught me to ask before taking;) Your in a music Capital talk to someone about making them a star!
