After reading numerous posts I have decided to go with the Canon A640 with Canon's underwater housing as a dedicated underwater set-up. This will be used for snorkeling only since I have an ear injury that prevents me from diving. I am not interested in adding a strobe. I want to be as compact as possible. Any thoughts on this setup? Is there a better housing? Camera? Do I need a diffuser and what type?
Thanks in advance for the assistance. Jay.

That setup will work quite well. The housing should come with a diffuser that slides in. I have been using an S500, with Canon's housing. Learn to use your manual settings, including white balance and ISO.

I think that setup will do you very well.

Learn to use the manual white balance and manual settings.

Also, check out the Magic Filters - sounds like they will be great for snorkelling as they are built to shoot a bit down (instead of up as is more usual in uw photography) and for shallow depths. A friend has some, but I haven't had a chance to test them myself yet. Those I know who have them, love them.

Thank you very much for the feed back. I am excited to use something other than than the disposable cameras. Off to Fiji in 6 weeks. Anyother other pointers would be welcomed.
