I'm a Fish!
Going on my first trip to Roatan in a month. Would appreciate any info on what's good and not so good...basic tips.

Thanks!

Last year I stayed at a small hotel/dive operation, Sueno del Mar, in West End. Very friendly small-scale operation, I'd use them again.
If you search in the Travel forums you'll likely find much more info . . .

I have been to Roatan once, last summer, and had a wonderful time. Stayed at CoCo View. The shore diving is fantastic, right out the back door, and it's possible to see 2 walls, a shipwreck (the Prince Albert), and a submerged DC - 3 all on the same dive. The bottom beneath the wall slopes gradually to about 150'. They have no objection to solo diving and I liked this particular dive so much that I seldom went on the dive boat. Fantasy Island is across the bay and would present the same situation. Have fun.

I haven't been , but I'm jealous! As Brian said, search here, and you'll find a wealth of info. Enjoy your trip.

Sit as close to the front of the plane as you can. There is a very short area inside the airport from the doors coming from the tarmac to the customs booth. You want be one of the people standing inside and not out in the sun on the tarmac.

Do a canopy tour. Me and my buddy didn't understand what a canopy tour was and missed the one our resort had booked. One of our deepest regrets.

The diving is good all over. Have a good time.

Depends on where you are staying??..also, the bugs are least around March, so that's good......

How was ole 'Brother Ray' doing??...lol, I haven't seen him since they opened the new place.......We have spent many a hour with them(he & Michelle) dating back to '94, in fact 2 of our kids worked for them @ times back in ''98 thru '01.......

Good, I'd say. He was in the process of adding eight rooms (thereby doubling the size of the place) when I was there in February last year. The "big" boat was out of commission, so we dove from pangas.

I would highly recommend Ocean Connections on the West End. We were only in Roatan for a day last December, but they had the best rates and top notch service. They are also partnered with a hotel, so you can get really good rates through them. We are planning a trip back there next year and will use OC for sure.

Here is thier website: Scuba Diving in Roatan with Ocean Connections, a PADI Dive Center

You may want to check out the Bay Islands Forum in the travel section. Lots of Roatan info posted there.
Do you know where you will be staying? Look at the threads in the Bay Islands section. Look for posts from RoatanMan who has posted a lot of information about pros and cons of North Side vs. South Side diving.
Great choice of a place to stay and dive.
